Farewell and welcome...

I've realised something, ever since I started to write my blog, I have been using my digital camera a lot more... I guess it is true when they say a picture can speak a thousand words.

This week has been rather hectic I have been working at CSIRO in their education department, so I spent most of this week teaching young school kids (7-14yr olds) about science and how interesting it is to observe and research like a scientist. It is actually pretty cool, and it is great when you have little kids come to you and tell you how much they love science. I really like the science communication side of things. I had a little boy on Tues who kept on wanting to show me his telescope or his light box etc, (we were making these with the kids) and that he remembered me from the last holiday program he attended. It is pretty cool when kids tell you they enjoyed learning the cool experiments you were teaching them.

Da.. I finished off the scarp book pages mum and I were working on...

So apart from work and suffering from a lack of sleep most nights, there has been heaps of things that have happened.

The farewells....
Well first, we have had a friend of a friend's stay with us for the past fortnight. Chihiro, she went to Gladstone (a little town in Queensland) to do some volunteer Japanese teaching and came to Sydney to do some English testing. I think it is always interesting to see that even though we are all Asians, there are still cultural differences between Taiwan and Japan. It is always interesting to learn about other cultures, so I was glad for the opportunity.
My friends Ee-Loong and Matt, they embarked on their 7 weeks holiday adventure of USA, Europe and eventually Thailand. I'm actually a little jealous of them... I wish I was embarking on a long adventure... Some of the top destinations on my list would be... Africa, Europe, Egypt, South America and Church historical sites in US... I so need a travel buddy. I hope Ee and Matt look after each other well, especially keep their passports with them.
Cameron, you are such a blast! Despite the fact that your place in Taiwan might be a shoebox, you are gonna be so spoilt from all the yummy foods you can have in Taiwan. Especially 鼎泰豐 (Ding Tai Fung http://www.dintaifung.com.tw/ch/index.asp)... I miss that place the most. So it will be sad when you finally do leave... there will be no one to have West Wing discussions with anymore :( Oh well we are taking you out to a Taiwanese restaurant here in Sydney on Monday night anyway, to help you become accustomed to TW food.

The welcome...
Elder Carter, it is good to have you finally land in Sydney. Sydney is still a beautiful city and I'm sure you will have heaps of fun here. It is always nice when missionaries come back for a visit... This is a message to the other RMs out there. Come visit us :)

To finish up this blog, I thought I would share with everyone some pictures of my home... Our family actually build the fence... the joys of renovations and DIY weekends... The fence also caused my dad to be in hospital for a couple of days... Once again the joys of DIY and cutting timber with an electrical saw.... As for the flowers... I just like the pretty pink petals on the ground :)

Wow - nice house! And nice fence too. :) (That one was for your dad.)

If I could give you two cents, it would be: Take every chance you get to travel and just go! We might not all get to waste our days basking on the beach like E. Carter since we have careers ;) but things don't get easier when you have kids and commitments. So just go and travel, spending within your budget. For example, if you were to come to the states, you could probably see a heap of it and not spend anything on hotels. ;) Tell Tyler Hi for us. We're just teasing about the career thing.

ps. I miss Taiwan food!
pps. My Japanese is so-so. I think I could survive, if I had to.

Jean,

Your scrap booking skills are pretty dang good!! and your house looks nice too.

I agree with Jerin that while you are young and single, travel and get as many things done as you can b/c once you have kids travel tends be slower and not as fun.

On the otherside go with your family. hehehe.its fun too...just a bit more $$

Jean, great site! I agree with the other comments: I would love to go back to Sydney (and I still plan to someday), but with school, kids, career- it's very difficult. Take care down there!
