Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentines Day! This year Jacob and I celebrated by him attending a sleep study at Woolcock for the whole weekend. So it is a pretty good Valentine's present to me.. I get to sleep in the King Bed all by myself without listening to his snoring!

Today was also Elijah's second day at Childcare and today broke my heart. I think he was a little traumatised from last week, so when I dropped him off he was happy to go in and play but needed me to be there with him. When I went to say goodbye to him, he started to cry and wouldn't let go of my hand. It was so heartbreaking.

When I went to pick him up this afternoon, as soon as he saw us he started to cry again. But apparently throughout the day he had more good moments than bad. So hopefully a few more weeks and he will be ok. We're also hoping that he will eventually start eating lunch and take a nap at Childcare. If anyone has any advice on how to speed up the process, please let us know.

This is a monuments day for our family, Elijah is now 21 months and we thought it was about time that he spent more time with other kids and develop more social skills.

When we got to his Childcare Centre he was great, went straight for the door of his room and was excited to go in. As soon as we opened the door he was happy to start playing. Didn't even care when we said "goodbye" to him. He was just happy to play outside.

Although I think as nap time came he finally realised that we weren't around. That is when it went downhill. I received a call from them to say that Eli was really unsettled and that we should pick him up. Oh well he did last from 9-3:30pm. Not bad for the first day.

Let's see how we go next week...

Sunny Queensland

We visited Sunny Queensland during November, luckily we left just before Schoolies hit town.

Mum, myself and bubba went up to visit some friends in Brisbane, and to attend an Essential Oils conference/seminar. I now am a certified AromaTouch massager... basically I can use Essential Oils to give you a light massage across your back that will help release relaxing massage oils. Feel free to pop around to my place if you want to give it a try, and give me a chance to practice.

It was a lucky getaway, considering it was relatively cold and wet in Sydney, whilst Queensland hit 30 degree highs and Sunny skies.

Flying with the little one

So it was my first time flying with the little one and luckily it was only a short little trip.

We were flying up to Gold Coast to see some friends and for me to learn how to give an essential oil light massage.

So we flew up Wed during the day and flew back Sat night. I think I much prefer to fly with a child at night. Because on the way up during the day it was just so hard to keep them occupied in a tiny little seat on a full plane for 1.5 hrs. It didn't help that the teenage boy seating behind me had his knee hitting the back of my seat constantly.

Whereas on the way back it was late and I managed to breastfeed to sleep during take off and he just slept in my arms for 1.5 hrs. Although Eli being over 10kg sure gave me pins and needles. Hmm I wonder how I'm gonna survive a 9hrs midnight flight with him in my arms the whole time. Let's hope that he still fits the bassinet.

I was a bit disappointed with Jetstar though, I just wished they would have allowed those with babies and children to get on the plane first. Because I didn't want to line up for 30mins to board while holding bub and carry on, I waited. But it is so hard to have to try and squeeze through the tight aisles with a bub and carry on. Also it sucked having to walk up and down the stairs to get on the flight.

Happy Halloween

Ou family love all kinds of celebration. We love to decorate our house, but there are not many children living in our street, so we have a cauldron full of lollies with no children trick or treating.

That's it, next year I'm joining in on the Halloween in the Streets party at Kinnane Cres, Acacia Gardens NSW.

That said, we still decorated our house and carved a watermelon. Watermelon is WAY WAY WAY cheaper than pumpkins in Sydney at this time of the year.

And little Eli was a little tiger this year :)

The Little Wonder Boy

It has been a while since I last posted, mainly because I have been too busy with uni, but now that I have a bit of a spare time I just wanted to update the world on our little boy.

He recently turned 6 months old, and is such a joy in our lives.

He has

1. Started swimming
2. Started talking a lot
3. Eating anything and everything
4. Hates going to bed, he could cry up to 1 hr, and eventually we give up and give him a feed to sleep
5. Yet to master sleeping through the night... still wakes up every 3 or 4 hrs. Little Eli, mummy really needs more sleep!
6. Rolling over from stomach to his back is a breeze, the other way though is yet to be mastered
7. Sits supported pretty well
8. Loves doing the "superman" while playing on the floor
9. Started blowing raspberries... so funny

Glorious Weekend

Cheer cheer the Red and the White!

Saturday was a fabulous and glorious day. I love watching my footy, and despite the fact it is the year of the Dragons, my beloved Dragons didn't make the NRL Grand Finals, despite me buying their stuff for baby Eli to wear.

I can proudly say though, my beloved Swannies made it to the AFL Grand Finals. And after an amazing game and 4 hard fought quarters. The Swannies came out victorious! 91-81, a great win against Hawthorn.

It was such a great game, the lead change multiple times. And it was with the last 30secs that we knew we had it in the bag! The game was that exciting that I watched the reply 30 mins later. Still nail bitingly good.

Can't wait till we take Eli to the Ticket Tek parade for the ever wonderful Swannies.

Note to self though. Don't scream too loud during the game. Or else Eli will get scared and cry.

Reasons to celebrate

Today is a good day and I have a few reasons to celebrate today.

Our home internet is back to full-speed! Yes I know it is a minor thing, but something that I'm so grateful for. We went over our broadband limit because Jacob was being a great husband and uploading all our photos into the cloud! Especially since we lost a bunch of photos after I dropped my laptop a couple of months back. But because we had soooo many photos, we reached our download/upload limit within the first week of this month's internet limit. So for 3 weeks we basically had to deal with dial-up speed rather than broadband speed. Seriously how did I ever survive on dial-up??? So for 3 wks I was rather annoyed because I felt like I couldn't Facebook or blog as often.... Or download the info I needed to finish my assignment for uni.

I don't have another uni assignment due for another months! Which means I can actually go to sleep before midnight and spend a bit more time with my little bubba.

Despite having to wait in line for 2 hrs yesterday to sign a phone contract to get the iPhone 5 (yes it is for Jacob), it does mean that I get his hand-me down iPhone 4S. So I get to spend ages playing with Siri.... It also mean that I wont have to remind myself to get pre-paid credits for my phone.

I'm still overly excited at FAST INTERNET!

I managed to squeeze back into some of my "loose-ish" pre-pregnancy pants. Come on Jean... just another 6.5 kg to go to pre-pregnancy weight.

We gave Eli his first real solids - Pureed Carrots with breast milk, and he loved it! Hopefully this will mean that he will love vegetables when he grows up.

After weeks of debate with the hubby, we decided that 5 months is a good time to start solids. It basically is a compromise as he was dead-set on 6 months.

The only problem is, he is not the one who has to breast feed the baby every 2 hours, and listen to him scream and cry from not having enough to eat or to fill his tummy.

So we spent a week trolling through the net, looking at forums about starting solids, the pros and cons... I really think we may be relying too much on Dr Google!

We also asked our doctor about starting solids when we took Eli for his 4 months immunisations, and we basically got the standard answer of well WHO suggests 6 months for BF babies, therefore your breast milk should be provide everything that Eli needs. At the same time most Paeds will suggest that you can start babies on solids at 4 months. But that you can just try and see how your baby is, basically very diplomatic answers!

Eventually after 4 days of Eli not having enough food, and crying after constant feeding, and back to sleeping only 3 hours between feeds through the night. I eventually convinced hubby that my body couldn't deal with the lack of sleep and I just don't build up enough milk supply over 2 hours. So we started Eli on just Farex this Sat (1 Sep).

It was so cute watching him eat, he absolutely loved it and polished it off.

So we have been feeding him 1/2 teaspoon of Farex twice a day at noon and at dinner. He is now eating like a pro!

Although we are still not starting him on any other solids till 5 months.

And yes... he is still roly poly... I think he is almost 9kg now!

In the last 3 months Elijah has entertained us with all his little quirks and actions. It is amazing to see how much they develop. Elijah has surprised us with his laughter, his chattiness and we love our little guy so much.
